In terms of written legislation, there are no specific laws in regards
to how many dogs can be within a particular household at a given time.
However, the interpretation of how many dogs are allowed in a household
is open to interpretation. Often times, the law will take the position
in terms of how a dog in a particular household is being provided for.
A person that has only one dog may not property provide for the dog
while a person with many dogs keeps his/her dogs healthy and provides
for them accordingly.
Another aspect to consider is the recent
attention that dog fighting in the area has garnered. This has led to
Breed Specific Legislation, which affects dog owners that may have pit
bulls and bully breeds in their household. These kinds of dogs are most
commonly associated with the illegal dog fighting rings, and thus, will
limit the type of dog in a particular household.
