While animals may be killed in both cases, the acts are quite different form a legal, moral and ethical stand point. In both cases, animals may be taken as trophies, however, hunters generally take only animals that they are legally allowed to and they practice ethical hunting standards.

Poachers generally kill animals to make a profit. They may be paid to kill an animal that appears to be a threat to livestock. Although that action can sometimes be legal in some locations. Poachers may also kill animal in order to take the babies to be sold as pets or for the entertainment industry on the black market.

Poaching may also include killing animals in order to sell parts of those animals. In some geographic locations, people use animal parts for medicinal purposes or in rituals. In other cases, there are people that want the pelt of an animal for decorative purposes. They may also want the animal stuffed, in order to be used as a trophy.

Hunting animals however, is done in a more ethical way. For example, hunting animals does not include killing , injuring or harassing endangered species. In fact, there are every strict laws which regulate the the type and size of an animal that hunters may kill.

Hunting animals, when done legally, includes ethical standards as to how, when and where animals can be killed. Poaching on the other hand, follows no rules and animals are often killed in unethical ways.

In some locations special deer hunts may be held outside of the regular deer hunting season. In many parts of the country, the land is unable to support the current deer population, leading to starvation and disease. For that reason, the state may open up a special deer hunt on certain tracks of land, in order to shrink the amount of deer in that area.
Most states have very specific dates for deer hunting season. The season may be shorter or longer than previous years, depending on the size of the deer  population in the area. For example, in previous years, the deer hunting season may have been over a month long and later, that season may be shortened if there are fewer deer in the area.
Deer hunting seasons are used to manage the deer population, so that the land can support the size of the population,while minimizing the interaction between deer and people. When deer do not have enough land, they may eat from peoples gardens or eat from farm land, which can cause difficulties.
Deer hunting seasons may also include other regulations, such as the number of deer each hunter can take. They may have to take so many females, before the may take a male. There may also be regulations as to the size and age of the deer, as well as the locations where the deer may be taken form.

The Lacey Act was enacted in the United States in 1900. The Act was introduced by John Lacey, an Iowa representative.  The Lacey Act was meant to protect nature through criminal penalties which cover many violations of the Act. The Lacey Act prohibits the sale of wildlife, including plants which have been illegally obtained. The Act was signed into law by  President McKinley. In fact, McKinley thought it important to protect wildlife.
Hunters must adhere to the Lacey Act, as it protects a wide range of wildlife. First, hunters should not disturb plants when they can avoid it, especially on protected land, such as National parks. They must not remove plants or injure plants as they travel through the woods.
In addition, hunters must only hunt the species that they are permitted to hunt. For example those that have a duck hunting permit, must not bother, disturb , injure or kill another animal, such as a deer. In addition, if a hunter is hunting deer, they must follow the regulations that apply to the size and gender of the deer that they are allowed to hunt.
The Lacey act has implemented many rules and regulations which protect wildlife. The goal was to have everyone be able to enjoy nature, while protecting the fragile ecosystem. If those that utilize the land respect the land, it will be better utilized by future generations, including future hunters.
