Understanding The Animal Testing Debate

Understanding The Animal Testing Debate

The  animal testing debate has been raging for decades. There are many companies that argue that they only conduct animal tests in order to ensure the safety of consumers. However, there are many that argue that there are other ways to test products.
The animal testing pros and cons debate includes many arguments for both sides. The negative side of the animal testing debate includes arguments about cruelty. For example, animals may suffer for extended periods of time, while they are exposed to chemicals and other products. In addition, the argument against animals testing includes the fact that there are alternative methods of testing products, including methods that do not involve the use of animals at all.
The argument for animal testing includes the fact that the tests are conducted in order to ensure consumer safety. In addition, pharmaceutical companies test new drugs on animals, in order to see if the drug will help those that are ill. For example, cancer treatments are often tested on animals first, to ensure that the morbidity rate from the product is minimal or eliminated completely.
Animal testing pros and cons include many valid arguments. While companies argue that they are protecting consumers, animal advocates argue that they are simply using the cheapest method of preventing liability issues, if consumers should have a problem. In either case, there are now more stringent regulations for animal testing.

What Are The Cons To Animal Testing

What Are The Cons To Animal Testing

Animal testing cons include the fact that many of the tests involve cruelty to the animals and in many cases, the cruelty is unnecessary. Animal testing and cruelty simply occur because it is often the cheapest way for a company to conduct testing to ensure lowered liability for consumer safety issues.
Animal testing is wrong in many cases, especially when there are alternative methods of testing. For example, testing cosmetics on animals only  because of the many chemicals in makeup, is wrong. Conversely, cosmetic companies that utilize natural  ingredients, simply need to list any possible allergens on the label, mostly eliminating the chance of a bad reaction.
Animal testing is wrong in cases where there are alternative testing methods. For example, drug trials on humans do not begin until after the drugs have been tested on animals. Often times however, tests including chemicals and computer simulators, can all but eliminate the need for animal testing and cruelty.
Animal testing cons include a lack of regulation in many industries. The treatment of the animals may include unnecessary suffering as a result of weak regulations. In fact, there have been companies which simply abandoned animals when testing was complete , most recently in New Jersey. In that case, dozens of Beagles were left behind in a building, caged and without food or water. Cases such as that illustrate  why there must be more stringent laws that regulate animal testing and cruelty.

What Are The Pros To Animal Testing

What Are The Pros To Animal Testing

Many companies are pro animal testing, as it tends to be one of the least expensive methods of testing to ensure consumer safety. Animal testing pros include the fact that many safety issues are eliminated before the products reach the consumer, including the potential for deadly reactions. Products tested on animals often rule out may possible complications, such as deadly allergic reactions, extreme changes in blood pressure and other potentially life threatening reactions.
Animal testing pros include the fact that many animal studies are conducted for the benefit of animals. For example, medications purchased for pets have already undergone extensive testing on animals. That testing ensure that pets are less likely to experience a negative reaction to those medications.
In addition, there are many treatments besides medication that are tested on animals. For example, some animal testing includes surgeries used to heal injuries, so that when pets become injured, they have a better chance of healing properly.
Products tested on animals benefits pets. In most cases, medications for pets have undergone the same type of testing as those utilized for humans. Without that testing, pets may be exposed to dangerous medications and surgeries. Animal testing pros include a longer life expectancy for pets, in addition to a healthier life made possible by analyzing the date from testing.
